About the Exhibition – AUN: The Fleeting on Mind
Held at Tokyo International Gallery, AUN: The Fleeting on Mind was a duo exhibition featuring my work alongside my twin brother, Banri Takada. The exhibition explored how we capture and preserve fleeting, everyday moments through oil painting, stopping time on canvas as a counterweight to today’s fast-paced digital world. My paintings focused on intimate snapshots of time spent with friends, transforming temporary memories into lasting visual stories.
Preparing for the Exhibition – Capturing Memories and Atmosphere
Preparing for the exhibition allowed me to explore how to translate personal memories into paint. Focusing on soft, foggy atmospheres, I aimed to capture how moments felt rather than just how they looked. Working on large canvases for such an open gallery space was demanding, but it built my confidence in scaling up my ideas.
During the Exhibition – Discovering New Perspectives
Seeing the work fully installed revealed how powerful presentation and spatial pacing can be. Hearing direct feedback from visitors was the highlight of the show, especially younger guests who saw hidden faces and shapes in the fogged layers. It was a wonderful reminder that every viewer brings their own imagination to a canvas.
Looking Forward – Exploring New Directions
This exhibition reinforced my desire to share personal, relational stories through art. Seeing visitors connect with the work, and even take pieces home, gave me immense encouragement. Moving forward, I plan to continue experimenting with new styles and formats as I build my practice between Los Angeles and Tokyo.
