Roots & Mission – The Heart of Diamond Kids College
Diamond Kids College (DKC) is a free physical education program created by my family’s organization, Takada Dojo. Designed to help children build confidence and resilience through body-contact exercises and teamwork, DKC brings kids together through active movement. In the summer of 2026, I joined the staff as a volunteer across three events in Gifu, Fukushima, and Iwate.
From the Ground Up – Preparing the Arena
Upon arriving at the gymnasium, I greeted the dojo staff and got straight to work. I helped haul heavy mats inside from outdoors, lining them up carefully and setting out water bottles to ensure everything was ready for the children. Once the doors opened, I personally guided incoming families to their spots so the event could kick off smoothly.
Active Energy – Guiding Through Movement
As my parents led the session, I served as a group leader to guide and encourage the kids through various activities, from high-energy running drills to tug-of-war challenges. I worked directly alongside the children, demonstrating exercises, offering high-fives, and making sure everyone felt supported and included throughout the physical workouts.
The Final Huddle – Lessons in Community
After the main event wrapped up, we packed up the equipment and gathered as a team for a reflection meeting to discuss how the day went. Helping kids push past their comfort zones and build confidence through movement is a deeply meaningful experience, and it constantly reminds me of the power of shared effort and community.
